I know very little about this lady, know she won some tv thing but just watching a clip of her on a documentary (I am actually watching Googlebox). I don't understand why she keeps performing if she finds it so stressful. Have I missed something?

Fame and money?
lots of people have jobs they find stressful. It's a matter of whether a better alternative is available?

But she lives in the house she lived in before and seems to have simple tastes. She seemed really distressed and had to have things taken out of her hand because she just stopped being able to function. Just seemed really miserable about it all.
I don't know much about her either, but she is worth a lot of money to agents, managers etc. I would think they put a lot of pressure on her to keep on performing, and she is not confident or savvy enough to tell them No.

Shouldn't think she needs to actually work anymore, can't fathom why she would keep, putting herself through it.
her lifetime ambition has always to sing to people. she has recently been diagnosed with autism.as opposed to brain damage at birth.

That's quite sad, almost like she is being exploited.
im not too sure she is being exploited she has said she enjoys singing in public, I think she would stop if she wished, I don't think she performs for the money , by all accounts she leads quite a simple life when not performing.
Susan was recently assessed and diagnosed as having Asperger Syndrome. Im many it means hypersenivity sherradk.
many performers do suffer extreme stress but still get "something" from performing as well as the fame and money. I think she'd stop if she wanted to and its not in anybody's interests for her to become really ill, least of all he manager, or record label.
Stress is not the only factor in a decision. One can desperately want to do something even if one's mind causes issues if one does. How strong is the desire to achieve whatever it is ? Perhaps a simple example of something similar is those sufficiently bashful and socially unskilled wanting a friend or partner. Should they give up on those aims because it stresses them out, and live without the benefits ?
>>>>know she won some tv thing

No she didn't

Everybody thinks she won but she came second to dance troupe Diversity.
You wanted to admit knowing that ?
She doesn't look comfortable on stage or in public anymore. She was okay in the first rounds of the X-Factor but the more it went on the more uncomfortable she looked.

I doubt the press helped with that with their continuous jibes about her appearance. That's enough to knock anyone's confidence.
Sorry...not X-Factor. BGT..
If we didn't occasionally get out of our 'comfort zone' we wouldn't achieve anything. I think she should be admired for having the guts to go through with something she finds stressful. Lots of performers have stage nerves before a performance but are rewarded with 'high' afterwards. I expect her self esteem has risen tremendously, after all she isn't a 'nobody' now.
The money she is making the middle men (like with poor Elvis and Judy Garland) is so great they use every trick they can to keep their subjects working, as without someone else's talent they have no source of income. And being not all together it would be a lot easier to push her than others.
Clearly you are an expert on Aspergers.
