I think its a reflection of how much Holmes likes Watson rather than cruelty. yes he has got a funny way of showing it. The other thing that wasn't pointed out was that not telling Watson that he was alive was also protecting Watson from the Moriarty network. If he has no secrets, he can't be tortured for them.
As Dr John says..."he comes back into my life which means I find myself being attacked, kidnapped and stuck in a bonfire. We still don't know why that happened. It had nothing to do with the terrorist plot. It was terrifying though. One of the scariest moments of my life."

hellywelly - have you been tested by mensa under proper circumstances?
or did you take one of those free tests mensa give out designed to make you think you are extremely clever and therefore tempt you to take the paid test at one of their centres...only to show the actual result is likely just average?
