For me.... Jeremy Brett as Sherlock, and Geraldine McKewan as Miss Marple.
Both seem to "simper" a lot.

Oh...I used to quite enjoy Jeremy Brett...but I've not seen any others except for Basil Rathbone
only seen a few episodes of the Brett version (which seem ok) but my favourite is Clive Merrison in the BBC radio adaptions
There was a christmas special on BBC about 5 years ago that was very good
I like miss Marple but prefer Julia Mcenzie.
My favourite Miss Marple was Joan Higson, when the series was still titled Miss Marple! I believe that Agatha Christie must have had her in mind when she wrote those books, as she was perfect for the role.
Is Benedict Cumberbatch any better as Sherlock Holmes ?? Not been watching it so cannot comment
only one Sherlock for me Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson
Jeremy Brett IS Sherlock to me and Joan Hickson is Miss Marple.
Anyone else is just pretending.
The portrayal of Emma by Gwenth Paltrow (sp?) I found absolutely dire.
I loved JB as Sherlock - all the flamboyant gestures and rapid movements added to the eccentricity of the character.
I agree absolutely with hc4361.
