Susanna Reid - Another Itv Debacle?
66 Answers
Does anyone else see Susanna Reid's much trumpeted move to ITV as a disaster waiting to happen?
You would have thought, after the utter shambles of Chiles and Bleakley, that ITV would have learned its lesson - it appears not.
There was the so-called 'chemistry' between the two, which, if it was ever there, evaporated pretty fast, leaving Chiles exposed as what he was - a sulky humourless man way out of his depth and comfort zone at that time of the morning.
Now, ITV bangs on about how 'the nation loves Susanna ...' while apparently ignoring a simple fact - the nation 'loved' Susanna while she was on Strictly Come Dancing, a high-profile ratings winner where tv people get to dance with varying degrees of ability. Susanna was in the weeekend evening viewers' orbit for about three months, and her profile rose because of the show.
To try and parlay that into a five-days-a-week show at the other end of the viewing day shows fatally flawed optimism, and an assumption - that 'the nation loves Susanna' that is utterly unproven.
One of the reasons why BBC Breakfast is so popular is because the ITV alternative is so dreadful - so to swap one for the other is pretty risky to say the least.
I predict tears before lunchtime - anyone else?

RandyMarsh - "No chance, i think it reeks of snobbery, he cannot help how he talks."
I assure you no snobbery is intended.
On reflection, I was perhaps too keen to mix Mr Childs' accent, which you quite rightly point out is inherited, with the utter nonsense he expresses with it.
On balance therefore, I would wish to withdraw that observation, and offer my apologies to anyone who was offended by my hasty writing.

EcclesCake - the present Mrs Hughes has always liked Mr Chiles when he has, and does present football coverage, to which she finds his 'everyman' style appropriate.
I almost never watch football, so only formed an opinion based on his Today appearences, and the following abomination that was his early morning TV appearences.
Some people simply don't take to people on TV - an occupational hazard - which presenters accept as part of their job.
The obverse of that situation is TV execs assuming that the majority do take to an individual, and that is where the problems start.

Well, for what it's worth here's my ten peneth.
I much prefer the Munchkin, and I also like Bill Turnbull too. Not too keen on Charlie Stayt, he can be quite rude when interviewing, and I'm not overly keen on the sports presenter.
Never watch ITV breakfast because of the adverts.
And I can never understand how Adrian Chiles ever got to be a TV presenter.

She's a MILF and so ITV will gain the male viewers who only watch BBC Breakfast show hoping to grab a glimpse of her legs/cleavage (saw internet news item recently where she'd done a 'Sharon Stone move' and exposed her knickers).
It will probably surprise some to know that I'm not one of the aforementioned males - I rarely watch TV in the mornings, much prefer radio
