Watching it on +1 at 10. Decided to give the Gothic 'Jamaica Inn' a whirl, seeing as how it's on for 3 nights. I just hope that there's a lot more smuggling than talk of weddings and such.

I saw the trailer and was unimpressed with the makeup job. He looked like bits of his face were going to fall off.

Got so fed up with all the trailers for this - must have been advertised at least 30 times in the past few days. I didn't like TC anyway but Hubby thought he was one of TV's greats, but he won't watch it either, says he doesn't want to see anyone impersonating him - badly (by the looks of the trailer!)
Watched Jamaica Inn instead, Matthew McNulty far better to look at!!

It was magnificent.

David Trelfall's portrayal of Cooper was extraordinary.

And the storyline was very clever.

Baftas all round I think.

Gave up on Jamaica Inn - good cure for insomnia. I fully understand some people not wanting to watch this warts and all portrayal for fear it may change their perception of the great comedian. However, like all dramatisations based on true stories, i would think there was a good deal of poetic licence employed. Personally i thought it was an excellent programme, well scripted and very well acted. And, if there's any justice whatsoever, a BAFTA surely awaits David Threlfall, who, in my opinion, captured Tommy Cooper's persona in uncanny fashion. What a truly outstanding performance.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. I must admit when I first read that David Threlfall would be playing Tommy Cooper, I couldn't for the life of me see how the same guy who plays the scruffy scrounging Frank Gallagher in Shameless could pull off a convincing TC, but I have to say I was very impressed with his portrayal and it made me realize what a truly amazing actor David Threlfall is.

Not for me ,watched for a while thought it got lost in its self .Then just to remind viewers who it was they would put in little well known Tommy quotes .dont think people doing impressions of the person works over a long period of 2hours .

I watched it for a bout five minutes, I thought it very poor, he was over "made-up" and it looked like an amateur attempt at a poor comedy. Didn't like it a bit.

As a young reporter I was with Cooper when he pulled the 'have a drink on me' stunt with the tea bag in top pocket. I bet the taxi driver still has the tea bag.

It seems many people missed this brilliant Drama, put off by ITVs over hyping of the programme for a week beforehand.

Which is a shame because it truly was a cracking piece of work. Trelfall was terrific as Cooper. Basing the story around his love interests was an unexpected twist and was very convincing.

It should win many awards and deservedly so.

Ratter; it was far from a comedy and had you given it more than 5 minutes you may just have been surprised by it's quality. Still, one man's meat and all that.

i thought it was amazing, sad, tragic, funny, and David Threlfall gave the performance of his life.

just a rider, i saw him play Smike a backwards, disabled lad in Dickens, Nicholas Nickleby, he was one of the boys in the hated Dotheboys school
i have never forgotten that show, nor his performance,
alongside Alan Armstrong as Squeers, magnificent show.

Further to earlier, thought Threlfall very good but the notion that this was an extraordinary performance, or script, is over-egging the cake.

really, i don't, it was an uncanny portrayal, a hard thing to show a national icon, treasure in a most unflattering light.

It was alright I suppose .Passed a couple of hours away. Amanda Redman was the only thing that kept me viewing .She was very good as his wife .
