The Dambusters :-)
Or... 'Where Eagles Dare'
633 squadron with the bloke out of Corrie and the cook from Crossroads.
....The Guns of Navaronne.
Force ten Navarone
ooops!..Navarone.
Especially the bit with the well oiled rat...
cross of iron. but, probably not for kids......
A less-oft seen classic too:

'Hope and Glory' is a more recent one (in colour) and I loved it as a kid - It's based around the home-life of WW2 Britain and is quite light hearted - great for the kids
The Battle of the Bulge & one of my very favourites Enemy at the Gates (about the siege of Stalingrad)
Not forgetting this classic, with a heartbreaking dilemma:

\\\\\\i fear that we have awakened a sleeping giant\\\\\

//Never fly straight for more than thirty seconds in the combat zone"

//"Cruiser on the starboard bow Sir"
"That's not a cruiser, that's a battleship....it's Bismarck...full ahead"///

///No 1, make to admiralty, Bismarck ablaze and sinking, am returning to Scarpa Flow"
lol admiral sqad has a good ring to it
The Guns of Navarone, one of my claims to fame as a kid as that my Dad helped to make the guns! He worked on the ones for the film, not the real ones.
Well tomorrow is the 6th of June and the 70th anniversary of the D Day landings.

So surely you have to watch The Longest Day
