Silent Witness has me confused

I watched Silent Witness last week and really enjoyed it so thought I would watch again! So imagine my surprise when the episode seemed to jump back. None of the other pathologists knew Nikki which confused me as last week she had chatted to them like they had known each other for ages! Am I going mad or did BBC mess up the order???

Can't help but glad it's not just me that's confused!  I missed the first few minutes and watched from when Nikki met Leo as she was brushing her teeth.  I was thinking, god that girl looks awfully like Nikki but it was some time before I realised they were one and the same.  Could it be something to do with running times?  Last night's ep. was shorter than usual I think.

I'll be watching this thread for any enlightenment!

Nobody is going mad! Last night’s episode was indeed the first from an earlier series. Leo has just taken over the Department following the departure of his previous boss, Professor Sam Ryan (played by Amanda Burton) who left at the end of the series before that. The episodes have always been one hour in duration, as was last night’s.

This practice of repeating an earlier series immediately after the end of the latest is an annoying habit that the BBC seems to have adopted recently. It’s almost as bad as the ITV showing the James Bond films in reverse order, finishing this week with Dr No (the first Bond film).

My TV guide said it was "another chance to see the debut appearance of Emilia Fox as Dr. Nikki Alexander...." so no mistake.

As Judge J says, the current series had just ended so they tag an old episode on the end with no break, just to keep us on our toes.

Hang on.... I watched last weeks episode and it seemed to be mid series not the end! Why are the BBC jiggling around the episodes??

I agree claireybear!  I thought there had only been 4 two-parters, is that a full series?

Last week's TV guide said the episode on the 16th August 2005 was the second part of the final story in the series.  I agree camille 79 - it was a short series.

I was therefore confused to see there was an episode on last night, but when I read the brief outline of the story in the TV guide I realised it was a repeat.

There was nothing dramatic in last weeks episode's that would suggest a final part but hey ho!

Seems very silly to put episodes from within the last series at the end of the end if you see what I mean!

Same happened to me claireybear I presume as next weekend is a bank holiday and Messiah will be on they had a slot to fill this Monday so they churn it all up again.

Well Peri I am a bit miffed as I am on holiday this weeked and so I am going to miss Messiah and I like it very much! Will have to get parents to video it for me!

The series seem shorter because 2x1 hours slots per week. 1st part Monday and 2nd part Tuesday. Budgets you see. By dragging out the story to 2 hours the scriptwriter and all other expenses are reduced.
