Anybody Watch 100 Yo Motorists? What Do You Think?

Fascinating programme earlier on ITV! Anybody see it? What are your thoughts on elderly drivers? Would you impose a limit or other conditions?

I think you would have to.
Maybe a test 5 yearly. After the age of 70.
My old dad thought he was the bee's knees at driving, he got a license by default post war.
A road sign denoting "pass either side" flummoxed him.

LOL ferlew - apparently there are over 200 drivers on our roads over the age of 100.Some great characters in the programme I thought and some pretty ropey driving though generally some very sharp minds from all featured.

I dont care what anybody says, your reaction times are very much slowed by age, especially when you get to 100. I remember parking at an uphill junction with a car in front of me. As we went to pull away the car in front rolled back into me and crashed to a halt. As I was getting out of my car, the car in front just drove off, I drove after the car and pulled it over, two old men in it and they were both totally unaware they had hit me until I showed them the damage, they just looked at me totally confused, I'm sure they thought I fitted them up deliberately!

Personally, I'd like to see a Medical for anyone over 65, renewable every 5yrs at least.

Before I retired I held a PCV/PSV for about 33 years. I had to have a strict independent Medical every 5yrs until I was 60, thereafter it was every 3 yrs. My driving skills were assessed at least three times a year by 'hidden shoppers'.

If a re-test might become compulsory I think it would be unfair. I've seen many people from 30yrs old and upwards who would have severe problems doing a re-test.

Over here in Spain we have to have a medical and take a virtual test every year after 70. And every 5 yrs after age 45' that is if one has taken the original text here.

That must pee off the natives netibiza if the incomers don't have to abide by the same rules. Seems very unfair.

I loved the programme and though all the elderly folk in it were lovely. I couldn't believe how old some of them were, they looked years younger ! One of the men did go out with a driving instructor and he was satisfied with him, so maybe they should all do that to ensure they are competent on the road.

Since there are hundreds more of us these days who are reaching 100, this is likely to be common in the future, rather than a rarity!

The old bloke who did exercises every morning and gets all his breakfast tray ready the night before was an inspiration!

Hi, yes I watched the programme. I think there's a need for repeat tests may be two yearly? Surely at that age health can deteriorate quite quickly. Brilliant characters though, as pips said that gentleman was very wise exercising regularly.

it made me feel sad some on them seemed so lonely with no one to talk to if they didnt go out
