Anybody else stayed there?

Reactions?

I'm having a lot of memories re-triggered and it hasn't changed much. What you do not get is the sense of smell in and out of the hotel...Mumbai is not the most fragrant of cities in a pleasant sense.

I started to watch, DT.....but I hated it.
Which hotel is it?
I gave it a miss as I'm currently hooked on the new series by Richard E Grant. Didn't want to OD on hotel telly.
I'm watching that Prudie.

I wanted to watch Hotel India, but the Sky box seems to be throwing a wobbly - and my husband's not here to sort it out. Oh well....
Mr Ask is watching the footie, Leeds Utd no less. I may catch up with that programme later Dtc. I wondered how good the hotel would be. As for the smell, it probably was better than that of one of his countrymen who fitted one of those theraputic electric beds for me recently. Hope the Ganges didn't make him smell like that... or maybe a dip in anything would help.
Sky plus for later hope it is worth watching.
Thanks Prudie, just found Richard, sorry DTC
Wery posh ;) why cant they say v? 80y woman obviously there for cheapo facelifts.

The Taj Mahal - they have sister hotels, have stayed in the N-Delhi hotel as well, SJ
I love the smell of Indian hotels. I love the plush carpets that your feet sink into when you walk to your room. I love the dark woods, heavy brass door handles, the staff wearing their traditional dress, the ice cold Cobra beer that you have when you get to your room, the fruit bats and black kites that are flying around outside of the shuttered windows. I love the food and the head massages and the perfumed soaps and the semi precious stones that can be bought at bargain prices.

It's good, not the best that I have stayed in (and, no, I wasn't in the Tata suite - I'm sure that this is staying in a rarified atmosphere - @£9k a night.....)
In fact, I just love going to India. Going there on Monday but what to have? Chicken Kathi or a curry - decisions, decisions..
DT I have stayed at the Taj hotels as well. I prefer the ITC chain though. The one in Bangalore is wonderful

Remember to take your padded Andrex paper. Stay clear of the cooked puppies though.
Why?

Just teasing.....

the only ITCs I have been to where in Jaipur and Calcutta and okay for two nights each.....
I love the ITC Windsor. It`s beautiful. Apparently they have a very good spa in their hotel at Agra. The prices are not too bad either.

Enjoy your trip, SJ.....
Thanks DT. I have a few days off before I have to worry about it.
I did the Golden triangle. 5*+ hotels were equivalent to our 3*. They pay staff a pittance & treat them like slaves. Woe betide a staff member who upsets a guest, their very life is at stake. I dont enjoy that pressure on anyone serving me. Indian Men were friendly & answered when spoken to whereas women rudely turn their back. Having seen the Taj Mahal & had my tongah ride, I have no wish to return to witness the squalor and misery of the destitue. GB give India £280million, what for?
