Took my son to the cinema this afternoon. Settled down in to our seats when a couple of women took their seats directly behind us. The lights dimmed and the adverts and trailers began. Then it STARTED...The women got the crisps out. Ruste, rustle, crunch, crunch. Ok, it was only the adverts and trailers, the film hadnt started yet. Then the film started and it was like a siren call to get the food out. The couple on my left started the 'rustle, rustle' of food wrappers and then others. The women directly behind me carried this on for the next hour, it was driving me crackers. Trying to watch a movie with my son (a rare treat at the best of times) and all I could hear was 'rustle, munch, crunch, chomp, rustle, rustle.'
I suggest that food should be banned in cinemas like smoking and the use of phones. Or am I been a killjoy?

I agree wholeheartedly nailit. What is it about cinemas that makes people think they need to stuff their faces with all manner of noisy junk food? I often wonder if they eat that much when watching TV at home.
"am I been a killjoy? "

Yeah

Tune 'em out, it's not hard :-)
One of the reasons why I don't bother with the cinema these days. And no matter where you sit, the *** behind you will always kick your seat.
Yes! I go to the cinema for extra large salted popcorn, sweets and vodka and coke (vodka sneaked in, of course), the film is a bonus.
Nailit - some years ago I took my Down's Syndrome cousin (very intelligent) to a movie.

I can't hear them (movies) but I just took her - anyway about 10 mins into the movie - the movie was stopped and the manager/projector (whoever) shouted out to everybody - "has anybody got an alarm clock going" - this old lady put her hand up and he quickly grabbed it and told her she would get it after the movie.

I asked my cousin - "were you able to hear it" God love her - "yes and it was getting on my nerves too". She died about 6 years ago at the age of 37.
Find it's also increasingly happening when you go to the theatre to watch a show. Can people really not do without food for that long?
I wouldn't call crisps, popcorn and candy, food - junk maybe. That's demeaning to proper food.
I remember going to the cinema in the 1980s in San Jose when my cousin lived there. When the film ended and the lights came up, I couldn`t believe the rubbish that had been left behind. Burger wrappers, massive fizzy drinks containers, you name it. I was quite shocked as to how much crap was left behind and why people were such slobs. Thirty years later, the cinemas in the UK are the same (and the people have the same obesity problem). Why people can`t just sit down and watch a film without stuffing their faces is beyond me.
You're not a killjoy....and you should make them stop.....I do.
"You should make them stop" How do you do that?
I went to the cinema last night.......the chap sitting in front of us got more than a packet of crisps from his girlfriend....:o/
make them stop - how do you do that without gettin a good baitin
jackthehat - do you think he got a good reaction.
The majority of people dislike noise spoiling a performance but are afraid to speak up.

If one person asks them not to make a noise...usually me....others will then speak up.

I don't go to the cinema or theatre to watch or listen to others eating.
Conne....I have never had a problem...why would I. We are all there to watch a film, play, show...whatever.....not to eat...so they don't have a leg to stand on....

Usually I do it with humour....and it works...x
jj - I have no idea what you mean....
''The chap sitting in front of us got more than a packet of crisps from his girlfriend''

Those cinema hot dogs are bloody expensive.
Well, she certainly seemed to be holding on to 'something' and tussling with it.....perhaps it was a hot-dog, after all......LoL
Don't google image search for big sausage pizza ... look I said don't ...

... there's no telling some people :)
At a long ago performance of Miss Saigon the man in front of me started speaking to his companion as soon as the curtain went up.

When I asked if he was going to do this all through the performance he said yes....my friend doesn't speak English...I have to translate....

I asked if he was going to sing too.....No...I can't do that....he replied...

Okay...you speak....I offered....I'll do the singing bit..or we could both keep quiet.....

We were both very quiet.....☺
