On again tonight; does anybody understand the plots, or do you have to be a Sicilian ?

You don't have to be Sicilian, but some people can't follow sub titles, so if nothing better to do, watch out for Caterello's antics!
There are usually several crimes that are discovered to be linked in the end. Some of the plots are political. The author, Andrea Camilleri didn't like thei Belusconi government.
The books are very good-I have them all, and all the tv series. In the books Montalbano is much slyer and a little lazy but they are very funny too.

The problem I have is that I get drawn into enjoying looking at the fascinating settings, the faded glorious interiors etc. and miss out on the complicated plots. There are so many names of the protagonists to remember, in the end I simply give up and just watch, hypnotised.
As for Montalbano; he isn't very handsome and is short and bandy-legged, but I do warm to him and think he has great on-screen presence. Yes, I'll be there again tonight.
You're quite right Kandro - who understands the plots - but like you, I find it enthralling and easily get lost in the gorgeous settings. And I find Salvo himself quite attractive!
Yes, the plots can be confusing at times, but the the settings and the characters make up for that.

We had never considered Sicily for a holiday until we had seen the first series, but on the strength of that went there and found many of the locations in the films. We went back again this year and explored more of the island. Beautiful weather, beaches, towns and scenery.

Best tourist promotional films I have ever seen!
I love Montalbano ,so pleased it's on again.I find the plots easy enough to follow, but I have read the books which are great . I missed the Young Montalbano and am watching that on DVD ,superb.

playbill; Do you know what the ferry situation is from mainland Italy? I'm considering going by car but can't fly because of dog.
I believe there is a hotel near Salvo's house doing good business.
I love Montalbano, but shame they're repeats. Young Montalbano is excellent.
The Game of 3 Cards last night was top solving, Salvo, but only Tarantino got arrested!
Hi Khandro.

There are many ferry routes from the west coast of Italy to Sicily and it depends how far north you are and how long a crossing you want to take. The shortest will probably be from Reggio Calabria to Messina. We have considered driving from the UK but that is a 1700 mile journey, so fly and hire a car. I would not mind the drive, but keep imagining how long it would take when you include all the stops for sightseeing!

Montelbano's house is actually used as a bed and breakfast when not used for filming. It is in the village of *** Secca. There are lots of hotels along the coast nearby. We stayed at Hotel Miramare in Marina di Ragusa which is only five or six miles east of *** Secca. It is on the seafront and very clean and smart.
Don't know why first part of village name was starred out. It begins with 'P' and is the same as the boats they use on the river in Cambridge plus an 'S'.
Correction! plus an 'A'.
