Elvis watching his 1968 comeback special. Fancied him ever since I saw him in Las Vegas in 1973. I thought he was even more handsome in the flesh. Anyone still "do" it for you?
I remember the day he died-my sister was diagnosed with pneumonia and arthritis that day, (aged 6) my dad was at kitchen table crying - I thought it was for my sis, but he turned and said Elvis is dead. My Mam whacked him with the frying pan-same sister loves Elvis, all the paraphernalia, the old vinyls belonging to my dad.. he's still alive and kicking in this...
My sympathies lard. I recently found a letter from my son in law to my daughter before they were married. (OK, I peeked), I got it back to them as soon as possible.
We grew up only listening to him (dad ruled the roost) so didn't have much of choice, only records in the house were his-he grew on us - was either him or Dolly
Mine was buying records before he ever met my Mam, my grandparents would tell her he has the bandbox booming all day - he looked dapper and they were a real 50's couple - had she lived my Mam would be 80 in the year to come - same as Elvis
My dad bought records all his life, I have them all in my loft. He was a guitarist in a dance band. I also have an accordion he had, it has to be about 80 year old. It's a beautiful instrument and the smell of Ivory is so intense. I don't know what to do with it really.
I've also got dad's copies of the BMG (banjo Mandeline and guitar) magazine.
I must have at least 300 of them from the 40/50/60 and again I don't know what to do with them.
