No - my ex had considerable musical talent and was 'pressurised' to go to the Julliard.
Eventually she rebelled and has vowed never to play her instrument of excellence again until her mother dies. Suffice to say, when it came to the piano, she played that for recreation and a prof of music was gobsmacked to find her playing at LRCM level with no lessons in it. Her fingering was wrong and he corrected it not by endless chromatic scales but by playing Gershwin and jazz, which she enjoyed.
One of our kids has incredible talent and is moving up the rankings fast at her sport - the kid will not undergo what mum went through as it has to be the love and passion that drives them towards success, and a sense of patience with all the practice required. I don't care whether that is in whatever field....
I am not saying don't encourage them, you should.....however, the moment that, as a parent, you start living your dream through their eyes, then you have gone too far. In the Ramseys' case, it may well be that Dad has given her the opportunity in TV but it is for her to seize the moment and take it on, not Gordon or his wife, and I assume that is not the case.
