On Celebrity Family Fortunes recently, the family of a Coronation street actress won, and they announced that their chosen charity was 'Out There' Supporting Families Of Prisoners in Manchester.

Of all the worthy charities there are, they chose to give the money to families of criminals.

Can this be fair?

it's not for the prisoners, anne
Yes anne but my understanding is this charity is for their families, not those in prison. I'm probably of the same view as you but it's not as undeserving as it appears at first.
I know it is for the families. still would not be my choice of charity to support.
Would you support food banks, Anne?
what has food banks got to do with the original topic ?
Do I really have to explain that?

I'd like to know, if Anne wouldn't.
I'm not too bothered , I will leave it up to you svejk to await the explanation !!!
Yes ummmm, you really do.
people who use food-banks are all crooks?
How difficult can it be? The families of those in prison may need the help of food banks.
sounded obvious enough to me too.... Would you support food banks even if it meant the Wrong Sort of Person ate some of the food?
Thank you Robinia and jno...

Wondering why the OPer and a few others seem to think the Families should be punished as well as the Guilty Party.
Its up to each individual which charity they wish to donate to. I donate regularly to animal charities. I don't think I've ever seen any celebrities donate game show winnings to any animal charities.
Baldric, I'm pretty sure the families benefitted from the criminals income and knew how the money was obtained. They therefore knew the risks of them being incarcerated.
Zacs...someone could be sent to prison for an altercation on a drunken night out. Not everyone in prison is a career criminal.
I would think the 'hardened criminals' and their families would not use the services provided by 'Out There' as they will be used to life without mum or dad -its probably of more benefit to those finding themselves left alone for the first time, through no fault of their own, and not knowing how to access services. Someone rattles a collection tin under your nose -you choose to give or not to give -its not up to people to judge who should or should not give their own money to, but everyone is entitled to their opinion on the worthiness of any charity.
Samaritans had a very interesting talk from an organisation called Families Outside and it really opened my eyes to what the families of criminals go through. Usually men taken from their houses in the middle of the night leaving wives and children not knowing what has happened. Breadwinner (sometimes) taken leaving no source of income for the family. Children of criminals being bullied at school because of what a parent has done. Mud sticks even though you may be the innocent party. Always remember that it is the criminal who goes to jail, but it is the family who serve the sentence.
maggiebee sorry but I have no compassion what so ever for serial criminals and if their families can't cope then they should not be living with a criminal.
