I was standing in Gresham Street outside the rear of the Bank of England with a colleague back in the late 1990's. Suddenly there were bank notes of all denominations fluttering down from above. My colleague and I were handed about £700 which we deposited later at Snow Hill police station.I often wonder how much would of been handed in if we didn't happen to be there at the time. It was believed that an upstairs office window was open whilst money was on a desk being counted. Wind and gravity took over and there was "pennies from heaven". Pity the poor clerk responsible. :-)

I handed all my donations in to Snow Hill. Honest. Contrary to Gromit's accusation ( a moderator no less) I was not bent but if I had deposited said £700 at Snow Hill nick in my wife's name she could have claimed it after one calender month. That money, apparently was never reclaimed and I assume that money went to the Police Widow's and Orphans Fund.

In answer to your question. At that time certain lost and found items could not be claimed by the finder. There was an acronym taught years ago in the Training School at Hendon.JACK FED HOT PIGS.
I don't think I can recall all the items but will try.
Jemmies, Ammunition,Cheques, Keys Firearms explosives D(?) (Hypodermics)I think, Offensive weapons T(?), Pawn tickets. Instruments of Gaming,Stamps (I think?)
Not bad since I was told that nearly 50 years ago.Cash was not included in the list and could be claimed by the finder at that time I mentioned.
