Can anyone explain the ending?

My interpretation of the ending is that Becky,the female cop, rifling through Mark's flat, discovered photographs of Mark and Katy as children, suggesting that they may have been brother and sister. This may have been to ram home just how unhinged he was long before he had the affair with the murdered woman, when you remember that he said to Katy that she had been his until Robert stole her from him. It was a bit of a weak finale but it may well have been done to leave the possibility of a second series - though i haven't heard or read anything about one being commissioned.

Does Katie know that Mark is her brother?

At least we could see what was happening, none of that gloomy, moody stuff going on.

hc; during episodes 1, 2 and 3, we were led to believe that Mark had designs on Katy, but tonight he said to her, something along the lines of, "Robert stole her from me, just like he did with you." So, if indeed they are brother and sister, then she obviously knows. The ending was ambiguous but there is no real need for another series to tie loose ends up. Mark is on the run and is a few waves short of a shipwreck - that's all we need to know, really:-)

Why on earth would she keep it a secret? I hate these unsatisfactory endings. Either end completely or end on a decent cliff hanger, ready for the next series

It could have been some kind of foster home, with him saying they came from the same place, or something like that? Might make it not so much less unhinged, but at least a little less creepy than them being brother and sister. Or it's a twist for the next series.
