Did You Watch Bear Grylls 'island'

I watched it to the end. It was very strange that on both the women's and the men's island they were all starving and had no energy but in the last episode, both island's found a sleeping pig. The men had been on the island for 40 days and had never come across one pig before. The women had befriended 2 baby pigs, in the beginning that they finally ate. All of a sudden after they ate the pig they were full of life and generally cleaning up their camp's etc. It smacks of all being set up to me.

Forty days of poor nutrition would leave anyone run down - vitamin/iron deficiencies, in spite of gathering sufficient fruits/nuts/roots to feel full. Presumably, they struggled to do enough gathering, to make up for the failure in hunting?

If Pigs were on the Island they would have know about it,pigs can be very vocal.All credibility was lost when they found a 'sleeping' pig. Anyone with any experience of wild pigs will know they could not have crept up on it -I believe it was tied down for them, and if they did allow them to kill this pig without knowing how to do it properly then that is disgusting. I find Bear Gryllis totally unbelievable and probably fake as well

Bear Grylls programmes are as controlled and scripted as all other 'reality' guff.

He's made a ton of cash out of drinking his own ***.

I thought exactly the same tamaris. It spoilt the programme a bit for me. And one of the camps found a tin of baked beans in a random place. what were the chances of that!!

While certain aspects of the programme may have been "fixed" I think that the distress shown by some of the women was genuine enough.

It would be interesting to know the acreage of the island and how many people/acre the two groups amounted to. I am guessing that the reason some islands are uninhabited is either lack of fresh water or because there's barely enough food for two adults, let alone raising a family.

If there were two teams of six on one small island, no wonder they ended up malnourished, between them. You would have thought they would have done their calculations at the early planning stage.

Even with crops and livestock, your maximum population density could never be better than early Victorian-era rural communities ie before modern fertilisers and mechanisation. I am willing to bet that 'survivalist' types under-estimate what modern farmers are achieving and how far short their efforts would fall, in an authentic post-apocalypse scenario. If they put as much energy into fostering peaceful international relations as they currently put into food hoarding, we would have a better world. But they like their guns too much, I fear. Their most important farming implement, in a manner of speaking. ;-)

I agree it was rather convenient although the men did say they had noticed pig tracks before. The pigs seemed not to naturally have any predators so that is probably why they were easy to creep up on. What annoyed me was the fact that they had been there 5 weeks and never been to the other side of the island and seemed to wait until they had practically starved to death before they did any serious hunting.

I did watch it with interest but then stopped as watching people kill animals is a necessity but not something I want in my living room. Added to that the news that the pigs were flown in specially and did anyone see the cayman killing episode? Their glee turned my stomach and added to that it turns out it wasn't a cayman but an endangered S American crocodile.

It was obvious they were getting help from "The Team". Bet both the pigs and the croc were put there for them to find and probably sedated so they could catch them easier.

On one occasion, the women were given a fish from a passing boat, they had never seen a boat before in all the time they were there.
