And just what riveting programmes is the tennis replacing, grannie? It's just 2 weeks out of every 52, surely you can find something else to occupy your time for such a short period.

Tennis boring? Didn't you see Dustin Brown against Nadal on Thursday, or our own wonderful Heather Watson against Serena Williams yesterday?

We have to put up with 5 consecutive nights (or is it 7?) of the dire X Factor and BGT every year. Now that IS boring. For some weird reason, my house is never as clean and tidy as when those programmes are being aired.

I agree with Cloverjo...we have what adds up to weeks/months of football/rugby/snooker(now that's really boring)!!

Let's face it, Wimbledon is just about the only sporting event the Beeb have left. They are bound to give it maximum exposure and with so many games taking place simultaneously, why not use both channels. As i asked earlier, what riveting programmes is this two week tournament replacing? As a rule, i do not switch my tv on until about 6pm, but if there's live sport to be watched........................... Makes me feel i'm sort of getting a bit of value for my licence fee:-)

Ken.........tennis is for everybody and one channel should be enough...surely.
Others would say that they prefer Eggheads or something that you would consider boring, but they would deem "riveting."

Same here, Ken. I never watch daytime TV unless sport is on, and Wimbledon is my absolute favourite. Let's face it, grannie, there really is a load of rubbish on at other times. (I know because my OH records some of it to watch later.)

Wimbledon has some of the highest viewing figures of any event anywhere in the world and the BBC has the rights to it. They are going to make the most of it. I agree it is boring but that is a minority view. I know several people who take 2 weeks off work just so they can watch uninterrupted tennis on TV.

Seems strange that this thread has attracted 17 replies so far, yet gollob's earlier thread, Wimbledon2Day has not received any.

Could it be because gollob chose to put "Get rid of the horsey Clare Balding" and we all know that lady is not up for criticism don't we.

Gollob's post didn't contain a question though -personally I don't turn the TV on in the daytime so it doesn't bother me.

anotheoldgit; as mamy says, gollob did not pose a question, merely made a statement - and possibly a request:-) And, to be totally honest, i have yet to see the 'horsey Claire Balding', despite having watched every day, so far. Perhaps that's because i am not interested in the build up - nor the post mortems - and only take notice when the actual match is being played.

since the bbc has the ability to stream 24 red button channels to freeview tv, that's a fair question and probably one for which the answer is "no, there is no need".
