We watched with interest the documentary "how to get a council house" last night, and it got us wondering about when councils used let their tenants buy the council houses.
What is in it for the councils/government? What benefit do they get?
divebuddy -exactly -if that had not been posted I would probably have not even come back into the thread. I was bullied as a child and I'm damned if I'll put up with it now.
The couple who were used to give Thatcher a photo opportunity (handing over the keys to their newly bought house) later split up and eventually lost their home.
House ownership isn't for everyone.
sandy -I think a lot found that home ownership as opposed to Council had its set backs -like all of a sudden becoming totally responsible for all repairs and maintenance, which can be quite costly -no more phoning the council up and getting free repairs.
