I once worked with a girl (Michelle) who went to Magaluf every year and couldn't understand why anyone would ever want to go anywhere else, especially when I mentioned once I would like to visit Iceland and she said "Why? To see the penguins?". A few years later watching "The Royle Family" Anthony Royle was talking about his new girlfriend's family playing parlour games after having Christmas dinner and Denise pipes up "What? Is their telly broke?"
That could have been my former colleague Michelle making that remark.

I though this was going to be an interesting program, sending "ordinary" people to Thailand and Dubai to comment on what it was like to visit those places.
But having watched the Dubai show it seems in some cases they chose the worst people they could and then filmed them moaning about things they saw and places they went to.
For example sending "poor" people or "working class" people to a VERY posh hotel in Dubai and hearing them saying they were going to "strip the place bare" before they left.
So it was nothing more than a reality TV show using exotic places as a backdrop.
I fast forwarded through much of the Dubai show, and wont even bother to watch the Thailand show.
Terrible.

piggynose it cant be a send up i mean its not the accent that sounds thick saying youre cultural because you eat indian and chinese !! then they eat in a 5 star restaurant and all they can say is i dont like this food why cant they serve bread ! you have to watch the programme to understand its tenerife tonight
I've said it elsewhere on AnswerBank - I'm sure they producers have tried to reproduce the characters from Benidorm. You've got the parents with the two children (the Garveys); the two gay chaps (Gavin and Troy); the older couple (Jackie and Donald); the stupid girls (Sam and Natalie) and the 'posh' younger couple (Martin and Kate).
Watched the one last night on Tenerife, having missed the first 2 programmes. They chose the (imo) worst part of the island to send them to. Having spent many fantastic holidays on the island, we always steer well clear of Las Americas because we know what it's like, as portrayed on the show. We did laugh at the comments though, especially one of the 3 brummie girls saying she thought wine came from 'wine factories', not vineyards!
It's not always ignorance, sometimes it's just an inability to read a map, like my friend back in the 1970s who would not have it that berlin was in the eastern bloc - even though she visted there overland and endured all the visas, guard searches and checkpoints.....
Mind, she also believed nobody could see through her net curtains when she had the light on.
takes all sorts.

I'm sure the producers knew exactly what kind of people to look for. I can't believe ( well I do !) that those three girls are sooo ignorant. I bet they have never read a book, WAG wannabes.. I have never seen anyone go in a pool or sea with make up on. I like the Fat mother, she has a go at everything, her kids are real whingers though. I wonder how they turned out like that having such gung-ho parents. The older couple, no comment, nor on the gay couple ( another whingers) . I find it quite an amusing program. To each his own, I suppose.
Yes it's THREE girls from Birmingham, not two. They are quite annoying but especially the one who wears all the make-up. The other two don't seem as stupid and quite willing to learn about the culture and customs of the places they visit. It would have been more interesting to have used a larger selection of people, rather than stick with the same groups/families every week.
