Did anyone else see this last night - and do you agree that 6.30pm was far too early to screen it? I'm not surprised it's given rise to complaints. Horrible!

Thanks bednobs. I didn't see that post.
sorry, it probably seemed rude, but i just couldn't be bothered typing my answer again :)
There was ample warning (in the Press, listings magazines, on screen) about the content of this programme....how about parents exercising some "parental control" for a change?
I have set it to series record, only after a view would I know which of the children in my family it would suit.

gingejbee, with the Watershed presumably in place, don't you think parents might be forgiven for thinking that a programme screened by a mainstream television channel at 6.30 on a Sunday evening would be suitable for family viewing?
I would like to think the title and I believe the pre programme warning would give a clue - but on the whole I think it was more suited to a later slot.
naomi....the whole concept of a safe-viewing "watershed" is meaningless in an age of catch-up TV, 24-hour streaming, any programme on-demand anytime-you-like. Parents need to inform themselves beforehand and control the TV remote!

Mamyalynne, I know the story, but I can't say I expected quite such horrors! I enjoyed it and I thought it very well done - but I wouldn't want a child to watch it.
Question Author
gingejbee, there's a degree of truth in that. However, this wasn't catch up TV or an 'on demand' choice - it was mainstream television.
I understand people's concerns and would only have sat down to view with 2 of my Grandchildren, they would have liked it (I know their tolerances re fiction).

The other 2 are rather younger and would be either shocked or more likely disinterested.
Naomi...we'll have to agree to differ on this subject. My opinion is that parents need to take responsibility for what their offspring do and watch...and not rely on somebody else to do their job for them.

gingejbee, I agree with you. Parents do need to take responsibility – but I don’t really see how they could with something like this. It was the first screening, so a preview on ‘catch-up’ or ‘demand’ to ascertain whether or not it was suitable wasn’t an option. 6.30pm ought to be ‘safe’.
Hopefully kids are not watching alone but if they are, this will jolt them into being wary of strangers.
I was less than impressed with the so called former comedian/writer of the series. When Charlie Higson was asked what he would say to parents of youngsters who may be traumatised by the series,he answered." **** them"
Now how is that going to help ?
We watched this on catch up last night and I really think they have made a huge mistake with the time slot. In the opening sequences someone is beaten very severely then you see a horrible face -enough for me if I were a parent of a small child to turn it off.. Some have said it could be similar to Torchwood or Dr. Who but I disagree as the violence on these programmes seems very tame and theatrical (lazer guns etc) where the violence on this programme is very real -beatings, shootings and a young boy gets his throat cut. I think this may turn out to be quite a good series, but I would have expected something like this to be screened well past the watershed.
Stop them watching Jekyll & Hyde and send them to go play Grand Theft Auto...
Ummmm my youngest is 14 - he didn't find the programme frightening but I think my 7 year old grandson would have - get it? ;-)
