Well it's no Bake Off or even Sewing Bee. Cannot abide Sara Cox and it just wasn't interesting enough for me. The ten minutes at the beginning and five at the end would have been enough. Mr Q enough it though.
I was 50/50 about it so gave it a look. The presenter was disappointing indeed and the jokes very lame: the format felt extremely tired, and if i hear the word MAKE much more, as in Bake, I will switch off. But i enjoyed watching them throw those pots and learnt a bit about pottery, so willl try it once more just to see how a jug or an urn is created.
I have dabbled in ceramics so I was looking forward to it and I did enjoy most of it. Sara cox was awful and if I hadn't been so interested in the actual pottery she alone would have made me turn off.
I enjoyed it enough to tune in next week. I don't watch any of the cookery competitions except for "... Bake Off", and I love "... Sowing Bee" too. The art class one only survived one series (presented by Una Stubbs and Richard Bacon), but I have a feeling this "... Throw Down" may last a little longer even if it isn't as popular as "... Bake Off".
If only for the act it was jaw droppingly dreadful it was compulsive watching. when 'him with the hair' cried along with the contestant- we were roaring our heads off laughing.
Will we watch episode 2? Probably not, but the first one entertained us, though probably not in the way the programme makers intended!
I quite liked it but wish they hadn't followed the format of Bake off and Sewing Bee quite down to the last detail. Like bring your stuff to the front, the judges don't know who's is who's, Star of the week before kicking someone off ect ect.
Hard to forget the potter's wheel interlude, DaisyNonna, they showed a clip of it at the beginning of "The Great Pottery Throw Down" - weren't you paying attention?
