Coronation Street Anna And Pat Phelan

This latest storyline strikes me as completely ridiculous. Kevin thinks the sun shines out of Phelan's backside and is believing most of what he is saying. Gary and Anna seem to be too frightened to speak out and let everyone know what sort of man he is.
I realise that a storyline has to have an element of disbelief to make it exciting but the Corrie script writers seem to fall back on the same recurrent theme all the time, in that a new 'nasty' character can spread stories about an established character that everyone has known for years, but the new person is always believed over the established character!
Has anyone else noticed this over the past few years?

The present Mrs Hughes is a fan of the show, but usually she watches recorded episodes, and I make myself busy elsewhere.
On occasions, we watch 'live' and the coincides with tea-time, so we watch together.
I have no idea who most of the people are, but when Carla comes into view, my breathing gets a bit ragged and my tea goes cold!!

Me too, when he fell in love with 'a leg'!
I have no trouble with her voice - it's probably over-'northern'-ised, but that is acting.
If I was close enough to be hearing her, my hearing would have shut down as a non-vital life essential, with that energy going towards keeping me breathing in and out

Ha ha, thanks for all the responses so far!
Yes the original storyline had Anna sleeping with Phelan on the basis that he would 'help them' financially out of the mess that he had got them into. He has told a pack of lies to Kevin, so you would think all she would have to do is to tell the truth for Phelan to be found out, but I guess that would spoil the upcoming storyline, which I am sure will be based oh Phelan trying to defraud Kevin and Jason.
Yes I agree that Carla is gorgeous and definitely so unfair that some women can look like this, it is making me laugh though that laid up under sedation in a hospital bed, she is managing to retain full make up and lip gloss!
But overall I do love Corrie as a soap, it knocks spots off Eastenders in my opinion.
Thank you all for your replies!

Actually, I think it quite often happens in 'real life' that a new person joins a group, makes up things (or makes unfounded observations) about one person in the group and then the group all believe the new person. She (and it is often a she) then ousts the chosen victim from the group and takes her place.
It's a form of bullying really and I have certainly observed it within workplaces and social groups.
