I noticed that, too. No idea.
It was very noticeable last night.
Apparently Frank Edwards is a character based on Frank Harris, an Irish American writer/journalist.
The scene in Mr S where he mentioned his background was cut.

How do you know that, Robinia? US accent worst at launch party abroad when frank had his fling
Was that the Harris who wrote the dirty book?
If the accent is only sometimes then I'd have put it down to less than ideal acting.
I didn't know vernonk but I was interested so I did some googling. It's mentioned in a few places, here's one of them...
