I think it's the rise in popularity of both sports being reflected in media coverage.
Why shouldn't they show more sports involving women - don't women pay the tv licence ?
As I haven't seen either sports played by women I don't believe it's an obsession.
You got it right, Dave.
You may think it a sudden obsession, others may think of it as long overdue.
Is it because the BBC now doesn't have the rights to show the male versions of such sports?
I have longer wondered why football is shown on tv. Must be about ramming diversity down womens throats.
It's good to see more womens sport on tv, but I believe it's on the BBC as they don't have the rights to show much other sport.
Cheer up, Dave.
You don't have to watch it if you don't like it......

I think it's because the BBC are being priced out of bidding for the Men's versions in addition to more women wanting to watch our successful female teams. :o)
It's cheap, that's why.

Hahaha Yes.

For ots very existence, womens' football has to thank the timy minority of pub jērks who held the view that women weren't capable and/or weren't interested.

They could have taken it as far as proving the idiots wrong and then given up. Evidently, they are having too much fun or they wouldn'd bother.

Personally, I don't watch it. My interest in football waned years ago, so I'd only be ogling. Apparently, only women can get away with such activities.

I don't think there's a lot of opportunities for ogling. The female cricketers and footballers don't look especially glamorous in their kit, unlike say some tennis players in their skimpy dresses.
I don't like football at all, and wouldn't watch the men's or women's version. I quite like the women's cricket and am glad they've got a higher profile now.
The only womens cricket I have seen on TV has been on sky sports.
You'd have to tazer me to watch cricket mens or women, I don't know why the beeb are obsessed with showing these pretenders of sport. Women should be banned from playing football and sign for chelsea. ;-)

Are a high proportion of the women who play football, cricket or rugby, lesbians?
99.9%
I've never thought to ask them
I can tell by looking at them.

They probably wouldn't want to sleep with you even if they're not, dave...
England women's cricket team are #2 in the world. England men's aren't. No harm in screening success
