David Attenborough Early Wildlife Films To Screen In Colour

This is wonderful news ! I remember those early Zoo Quest programs with great affection. I also have the books that he wrote at the time here on my bookshelf.

"National treasure" is a phrase that we see used a lot these days, perhaps too much and too readily, but Attenborough truly deserves it !

On a related subject, does anyone else remember the Hans and Lotte Hass programs in the 50's ?

I think he looks like some overgrown schoolboy !

His programs have given me such pleasure over the years. Next time somebody is bad-mouthing the BBC, just mention his name ....kills any criticism stone dead !

He makes even the most boring of subjects sound exciting. I read this in an article once:-

He tells a lovely anecdote about coming home from some god-awful adventure and throwing himself into his bed. He woke, blinded with sweat in the wee small hours.

'I thought I had malaria and lay there, anguished, wondering what type I'd been exposed to. I looked at my poor, dear wife and thought, "Good grief, what have I exposed her to as well?" Then I put my hand on the sheet between us and it was red hot. She'd bought an electric blanket when I was away. A his and hers one. My side was on and I had no clue that I should be turning it off.'

He is brilliant, intelligent and a normal human being.
