I wouldn't say it makes me happy to be a bit better off than I used to be, but it does take away a lot of anxiety about where the next pair of shoes is coming from. And there are more things to look forward to, like holidays
Longish article, got bored after a bit, but it seems it isn't the money, it's how the folk reacted to it and whether they got and took good advice for using wealth. They were the same folk before the win as after, they just had not freedom to do things they wanted instead of needing to do the sensible prudent things. I feel fairly sure such a windfall would enhance my life even if it could not solve everything.
I am lucky enough to not have to worry about money any more. I don't have anything like a million, though, and wouldn't particularly want it. I'm glad I don't wake up in the middle of the night worrying about how to pay the rent.
I like the security. When my uncle died last year, booking flights, hotels, hire cars etc without worrying about how you can afford it....takes some of the stress away.
So...money takes away many worries so makes people happier.
I too wouldn't mind finding out what it would mean for me. I have no family, so no worries on that front, but I'd help half a dozen close friends if they wanted it & think carefully about the rest.
I certainly wouldn't announce a huge win to the world.
I would never announce it. I don't know what I'd do with that amount. None of my family are struggling financially so I doubt they'd be arguments over it.
When my granddad died he'd written one of his children out of his will. The other siblings decided that she wasn't to know and divided the money as if she was included.
It would certainly help me fulfil some of my dreams, not sure if that would make me happier. That amount is too much. OH and I have already decided we wouldn't tell anybody, certainly not a win of that size, I'd rather give the bulk away anonymously.
You only have to have been involved in the will of a family member that everyone supposedly loved to see how abominable greed can make some people behave.
I think if people are unpleasant and greedy without money, they will be worse when money enters the equation.....While I am in no way broke, I do have some issues in my life that money would help to solve.
Money frees you from doing things you dislike. Since I dislike doing nearly everything, money is handy. - Groucho Marx
Or.
Money can't buy you happiness, but it does bring you a more pleasant form of misery. - Spike Milligan
I think that's great, ummmm. There are lots of families who would argue about that.
Prince's three siblings are arguing about his $300 million fortune. Why not be happy with $100 million each? A lot could go in lawyers' fees if they're not careful.
