I'm of the opinion that it is well written and whilst not a fan of Ben Elton, David Mitchell or Harry Enfield; I am enjoying it enormously.

For those who haven't heard it is a comedy written by Ben Elton about Shakespeare (DM), his writing and his life in London and Stratford.

Although a lot of the room-sets, characters and dialogue seem very similar to Blackadder II.....which was Ben Elton's finest comedy hour.

The first episode was the best nut it has dropped off a bit since. And what's with the David Brent impersonator? Puts me off a tad.

Sticking with it, but for me there is far too much dialogue - would rather have shorter speeches with more punch lines - you have to really concentrate to understand a lot of it. And I agree about the David Brent character - its almost a caricature and I find it really annoying.

I love it, like to pick up on the nods to current life, the local girls are permanently attached to their books of sonnets and never talk to anyone, thumbing through the pages non-stop.

Thanks to Mamya I now understand the Brent-like Kemp. I agree about the sets, somewhat reminiscent of Crossroads, I can't agree about the lengthy dialogue, it makes a change to have a comedy that requires a bit of concentration rather than endless one-liner gags. I can't say I've noticed the canned laughter, perhaps I'm drowning it out with my own.

Anyone who hasn't seen it should give it a go.
