One of the ways were too, not hang up when they had been speaking to the victim, so they could get the bank details.
Surely the phone company could do something to stop this, or have I missed something?

Couldn't believe that the main fraud bloke who supposedly stole thousands, only got 30 Months, even though he pleaded guilty.

They could but I'd mean dropping the call when the call receiver puts the phone down. If the equipment allows it, no more putting the phone down in one room and taking the call in another. May be other effects I've not thought of too.

"We would strongly recommended that you always call the caller back but that you do so from an alternative telephone line or mobile. If this is not possible you should wait for at least 3 minutes and check for a dial tone before making the call. BT automatically disconnects calls after two minutes of inactivity where one party has hung up."
