Is this a plot, or a gang of students having a laugh?

Andy H, The similarity to Ali G is entirely intentional, and part of the joke. It is a cover version of his act by a femal performer. X-factor is all about copying and unoriginality, so how is Honey G any different from the rest?

?
You don't mean Ali G or are you being funny?
TTT under another name?
I don't watch the show but have seen the name Honey G in relation to X Factor
Question Author
Ali G - white person pretending to be black - seriously not funny? Isn't that the one?
What's he got to do with x factor? You are confusing us
Question Author
Prudie - I may be confusing you, but that doesn't mean that the rest of the congregation are not with the point I am making.

My sarcastic reference to Ali G is rooted in the parallels with Honey G - both hate the same 'surname', both have bogus pretentions to black culture, both are getting a very very long way on a seriously weak initial premise.

The point where their paths part is that with Sacha Baron Cohen, his character is intentionally satirical, and uses clichés and standardised behaviours gently to mock the culture he lampoons.

Anna Gilford has no such skill and is riding the contrary nature of the viewing public.

So, as I said, is it a plot, or a gang of students having a laugh?
Question Author
have - not 'hate'.
I think she knows exactly what she's doing. I wonder if it started off as a bet to see how far she can get and she will stay in for as long as she is being talked about and increasing viewers. How many threads have been started about any of the other contestants?
It is best to be clear in one's questions, andy. Cohen retired Ali G 15 years ago and some people may not have made the connection between that character and Honey G.
I think the "X-Factor" gave it away?
Question Author
pixie - a fair point.

As Mick Jagger always used to say, there is no such thing as bad publicity.

Ms. Gilford is obviously not stupid, and probably doesn't want or need the five minutes of fame that winning will give her.

She appears immune to the hostility she receives from the studio audience, maybe she could do a Maximus in Gladiator, launch her microphone at the judges' table and yell "Are you not entertained?".
Andy H,

The similarity to Ali G is entirely intentional, and part of the joke. It is a cover version of his act by a femal performer. X-factor is all about copying and unoriginality, so how is Honey G any different from the rest?
Most of them will probably disappear without trace. Simon Cowell isn't daft- he'll soon pull out anyone he can make some money out of no matter where they come in the "competition". This is for entertainment and viewing figures only. I suspect she is well aware.
Question Author
Gromit - I must admit that is an angle I had not considered - you may very well be right.

I do know, as does anyone with experience of the X-Factor, that she will not last five minutes when the show is over, win or lose, but given your interesting view, that may be something for which she is entirely grateful.
Well I'm glad the rest of the congregation understand. It is just me. I still don't know if you want to talk about Ali G, Honey G or the x-factor. I'll sit back and learn from other posters.
Question Author
Prudie - I love talking about it because the sheer pointlessness of the whole thing appeals to my sense of mischief.
Is it because she is white?

She may be heading for the Nobel Prize for Literature 2017.
