Now, after watching The Freddy Mercury Story.... feeling a bit disappointed (but not half as disappointed as Brian May must be feeling!! ). Jeeez, he looked like a transgender shop mannequin!
Where on earth did they find those dreadful wigs? No..... not the best reenactment of one of theeee best bands EVER! :(

Agree with you. And it seemed the focus was all about how Freddie handled his illness rather than the music.
it was the freddie mercury story not the queen story guys
Correction curly - THE best band ever imo;-)
I haven't seen it yet to form an opinion.
All the wigs on all the characters were uniformly dreadful - quite distracting I thought.
I was so disappointed.
Thought it was quite naff right from the beginning but stuck with it in half hour sessions as i just devour anything about Queen. Besides which, i wanted to see if there was anything in it that i didn't already know - there wasn't. I think, maybe, the most telling thing about it was the absentees. Whilst John Deacon, Mary Austin and Jim Hutton have, by and large, kept a dignified silence since Freddie's death, Brian May and Roger Taylor have milked the aftermath for all it's worth. This was the first documentary i've seen without either/both making a contribution. Wonders will never cease.
Sounds of the 70s last Sunday focused on Queen. Probably available as a podcast and / or on BBC iplayer.
Ken4155 - I think Queen should have done as Zeppelin did - realise that the four are an integral part, and without one of them the band is not the band anymore.

May and Taylor elected not to do so, and have dragged various abominations around under the Queen banner - I refuse to have anything to do with any of them, on record or in concert.

I saw Queen twice - once as a support band with Mott The Hoople in 1973, and again at Stafford Bingley Hall. I prefer not to have those memories tainted by rock singers in bad wigs, and American reality stars.
Understood. But to be fair, Adam lambert was in American Idol, a TV talent show not a 'reality' show, he's Grammy nominated - and he can sing.
Zeuhl, so can Susan Boyle, but you wouldn't put her on with ex-members of Queen would you!
I thought George Michael did a great job at Freddie's tribute concert with Somebody to Love
Andy Hughes @ 1645; Oh, i don't know, Andy. If May and Taylor couldn't get anyone else, i'm sure they would be tempted. Just to keep the gravy train rolling along. And that comment was made with only half my tongue in my cheek:-/
Some of us were never fortunate to see Queen as a gestalt entity... but this a great version Margo. :-)

Am I the only person alive who could not abide Freddie Mercury? He gave me the creeps!
I don't think your alone on that one Tilly, many others didn't like him either.... to me a Rock legend.
I could admire the music but I couldn't watch the performance of it......too, too much.
I watched the program and must say that the chap playing Freddie was perfectly cast - at times you could be mistaken for thinking it was genuine footage.

I looked up the chap who played him - he's from Australia and in a tribute band - Killer Queen.

Must agree the others wigs were poor.

Close your eyes Tilly... he liked to camp it up a little. Tuvok the actor who played him did it brilliantly.

Sometimes dignity and respect for the fallen has to come before money.

I am perfectly fine with anyone making music - just don't call your band something it isn't - and this isn't Queen, it's two ex-members of Queen, a session bass player, and whichever front person we think will do it, however unsuitable they obviously are.
