I'm a little envious of her, I've never been past it.
I'm well past it.

But I have been to Holkham Hall - a great place.
She said she knows Norfolk well but has not been to Holkham - only past it.
Holkham Hall is lovely.. been many times when I lived in Norwich
I suppose she meant that she'd never visited there, lovely! Thomas Coke's seat wasn't it ? (Vague memories from History lessons.)

Had a couple of great caravanning holidays at Holkham Hall in Cumbria (worth visiting).
Hi everyone

What's at Holkham Hall, as I like people's views on great places to visit, rather than just to google it?

Norfolk in Chance would have been a good answer ...
Thanks for links, minty.....guess I'll have a google x
dig that severely Palladian south facade!
Yogi - it's a while since I was there, (Cumbrian one) but there is lovely parkland and also gardens (rhododendrons in flower are stupendous). There is a museum of interest to motor fans, lots about Donald Campbell (replica - or even the bits of the real thing) of 'Bluebird'. The area is beautiful, not far south of Windermere but on the coast (Musselborough is near and the fresh mussel fishers' produce) and the quicksands of Morecambe bay surround the only passable route across. Grange-over-Sands has a superb butcher with the best Cumberland sausages I've ever eaten. Def. worth a trip. 'Sticky-toffee pudding has its home nearby!

Morcambe Sands and Grange Over Sands, how the heck do they get close to Holkham wot is in Norfolk?
Jourdain, thank you very much for your answer.....appreciated. :-)

Go to the Lake District alot and surprised never gone to see the Cumbrian one...... we last stayed at a lovely chalet park in Watermillock near Lake Ullswater, and drive up to Bowness- on Windermere, where we mainly stay when visiting, around Kendal, Cockermouth and Grassmere to mention a few.

Will make sure visit in the Spring when next there. Thanks again, Jourdain, for the information.
Baldric, I don't think anyone is listening - just as they didn't listen to my post at 18:33. ;o)
seen both....yogi may have seen the family business in Bowness; a mate of mine who was at school at Gresham's as to the Norfolk one, his old man the second master there.

You're right there Naomi ;o)
Confusion reigns I think..

I adore the scenery around Bowness, DTC and this is where we stay when up there..... truly lovely, peaceful and tranquil.....probably do know the Family business as I know most places there and have many friends we've met over the years.
