Part two will be interesting.
Not really. It's a bit lighter now, but it was another of those shot in the darkness for most of part one and that is a straight put-off for me.

OH is watching it and I'm sort of keeping an eye on it. Powerful dialogue at the mo..
not my cup of tea at all. If I want dark and moody, I watch the news.
Totally different ending from the 1957 film. Talk about taking liberties.
This is good but well remember Charles Laughton forgotten this though

Has anyone read the original book ?
Is the same story from years ago? Maybe Marlene Dietrich was in it?

well I suppose rather than remake
just watch the 1957 movie
It was written as a play, not a novel. The original film ends with him being acquitted. He then admits his guilt as he can't be tried twice and spurns the woman who discredited herself to save him. She picks up a dagger and stabs him to death. The lawyer says he will take on her defence.
Marlene Dietrich was in it.
The 1950s film was so much better. It stuck to Agatha Christie's excellent storyline. This week's adaption was a poor substitute.
Still enjoyable though. Different, more like 'a twist in the tale.'
Sarah Phelps went back to the original short story - Christie changed the ending for the stage version and Billy Wilder used the stage version ending.
I thoroughly enjoyed this version.
