I was looking forward to the wrestling, remember how I loved it back in the days of Kent Walton commentating. Such a let down, anyone enjoy it?

Yes, I was looking forward to it tonight too. We used to go to wrestling every week in the 1960's with all the big names. Jackie Pallow, Bad boy Bobby Barnes, , Big Daddy, Giant Haystacks, etc, so I was looking forward to it tonight. I saw most of the first bout with two high stepladders in the ring and thought to myself this isnt wrestling and I turned it off!!!!
I seen a wee bit and there were some stepladders and four folk in the ring fighting to get something hanging above them. No idea what that was all about!
It was terrible ! Like you I was looking forward to seeing it. But what a load of rubbish!! So put on and not done every well either.! No more for me.x

Isn't all wrestling ' a put on' ?
I remember Giant Haystacks - an intelligent family and businessman out of the ring, telling a story about his son having his hair pulled by a teacher at school, The lad retorted with the standard "I'll get my dad down ..." which probably meant little to the violence inclined teacher.

Except that his dad did indeed come down and had a word with the teacher - and the word concerned a proposed replay of said incident.

Mr Haystacks - 6'11" and weighed forty-five stone, pointed out the following to the teacher - "If you pull my lad's hair again, I'm going to come down here and pull your hair, but the difference is, when I pull your hair I'll probably pull your f*c&ing head off as well."

I don;t believe he was required to make that return visit.
Sweaty people rolling around on the floor?
No, not really
It ain't proper wrestling if the ladies in the front row don't start hitting the baddie with their handbags.

Noooo Daisy, thats the game of Twister that your thinking of ;-)
Brings back memories.... loved it
Ladies in the front row risking being showered by gobs of sweat?
I remember those early wresting programs on ITV, very clearly.

My Grandmother used to laugh like a drain at the antics of Jackie Pallo and Giant Haystacks....it was the highlight of her week, especially towards the end of her life.

By the way, did you know Jackie Pallo, real name Jack Ernest Gutteridge, was the first cousin of Reg Gutteridge, the TV sports commentator ?
Twister? Why risk spoiling a perfectly good friendship?
Les Kellett, the greatest ever.

Daisy, they only used to go so that they could hit men with their handbags !.
Only have shoulder bags
Two old acquaintances of mine - my Brother in Law used to Wrestle back then too.

That will do, Daisy. You get a better swing with a shoulder bag.
Tonyav....I had quite forgotten Les Kellet, another of my grandmothers favourites.....many thanks !

And a Happy New Year to you Tony !
Blimey I remember those two very well, Mamya ( from Bolton I see ).
