Roots. 2016 Remake.

Does anyone know when and on what channel the remake of Roots will be shown.

The original 1977 series is one of my favourite programmes of all time and I am so looking forward to this.

Hope it’s soon, telly has been rubbish since the end of last year.

Looks like it will be on The History Channel. Don't know why because Alex Hayley admitted he made it up! Lots of better documentaries on slavery.

From what I've read The History Channel actually made the new 2016 version.

I do hope not - I don’t get The History Channel!

I know that Alex Hayley’s book turned out to be a very ‘loosely based’ version of his family history, but I like it as a drama/story, not a documentary.

The original with an all star excellent cast, was simply stunning when I first saw it in the 70's and was young ( about 11 years old ) so it was especially powerful.
I have Roots:The Complete Series and Roots:The Next Generation plus the 2 hour Movie 'The Gift' in my DVD collection and is so good.

Whether the new 'Roots' will be as good, remains to be seen, but the general buzz about it is encouraging and positive.

yogi-bear, I have the 25th Anniversary Edition on DVD. I have seen The Gift, but wasn’t quite so enthusiastic about that one. (Is that the one where Fiddler dies? Possibly whilst sitting against a tree).

The Americans made some brilliant miniseries in the 70’s and 80’s. Another of my all time favourites is North and South.
