While I have no objection at all for women being football pundits and commentators, also extensive coverage of women's football. Does anyone else find it a bit contrived that this has suddenly happened after all the years of being only men?

No.
Cheer up, Dave.
No
Long overdue in fact
I think it is in line with the agreed perception that the male bastion has to be breached.

It can't really look anything other than contrived because introducing a large number of women over a short space of time draws attention.
i watch the football..not the pundits
They'll have black pundits next, oh wait......
dave50 - it's called moving with the times. All part of a general overhaul across all channels and sports.

Many presenters have been unfairly banished in favour of more hip presenters and those who have ended their careers and are deemed good broadcasters which many are certainly not.

Some women have been around for years,Irvine,Baldwin etc and do a sterling job.Gabby Logan and Jacqui Oakley are certainly up to the task too.

I think it's a good thing. If they are good enough the sex doesn't matter. What we don't want are retrograde steps where the axing of some presenters has left a sour taste.
No, not really, Dave.....about time, in my opinion, some are very good indeed.
I remember seeing a TV programme about women's football early in the last century and they used to get huge crowds similar to Championship/Premier League sides now, so women's football is not new. Women's football is not as popular as men's football but it draws in crowds which are usually bigger than cricket matches get so it's not unreasonable for TV companies to show it on TV.
Football on TV is watched by women as well as men so it seems reasonable that the commentators/presenters should include some women
Anyone's better than than screeching John Motson.

Blimey!!!! How do some get away with it, without the usual 'racist' accusations?
Because it is an ironic answer, AOG.
Are not many female TV presenters put out on the scrap heap, when they get to a certain and lose some of their looks, yet their male equivalents go on and on and on ?

Oh I didn't spot that, was there a particular sign or anything?
yes the '....oh wait' bit.
AOG - newsreaders certainly spring to mind.
The particular sign would be the previous posts Ecclescake has submitted over the years.
Was I being too subtle for you AOG?

I'll be sure to sound the irony klaxon in future.
Although women are a million miles being men when it comes to playing football ... they should still be allowed to talk about it.

Right I might get one of those, even if some will then be forced to get rid of their packs of 'race' cards, that's if they have any left.
plus by abundance Dave means 2
