TV license

Just wanted to know people's experiences of the TV license people knocking at your door.  Do they actually knock on your door?  If they do, do you have to let them in.  What's your story?  thanks.

One did knock my door a few years ago, But i was just on my way to pick my Son up from school so i told him he couldnt come in and that he would have to come back later, He was fine with that and i never saw him again.Not sure if they still go round knocking doors though

My friend hadn't paid his TV licence and they came knocking at his door.  There was two of them and they didn't give him an instant �2k fine, but gave him the option to start paying for it, he filled out all the direct debit forms there and then.

You do not have to let them in, it is up to them to prove that you have a TV and are watching it without a licence. A friend of mine in his rebbelious youth never had a license and only now he is a sensible family man has he got one. He became an expert at dealing with their tactics, one which always makes me laugh, he was sent a letter stating that there was no record of a TV license for his address so he wrote accross it "TELEVISION IS AN ABOMINATION UNTO THE LORD" and sent it back, lmao!

A friend of mine "got religion" a while back and decided her TV was a tool of the devil and she sold it.

She only had a b/w TV and had had a lot of trouble with the TV licence people because they couldn't believe that anyone would have only a b/w TV in this day and age. When she wrote and told them she had sold the TV they kept visiting her. She let them search the flat for a TV - unfortunately they found a video recorder in its box, which she was planning to sell, and they took her to court over this as it is deemed a TV receiver.

They do still come knocking if you dont have a licence registered to your address, it happened to a neighbour last month.

I dont know anything about having to let them in or not though, sorry.

They definetely do not have a right of entry,unless invited in.

I've had 2 visits in different towns.  They do knock.  They may ask to come in but you don't have to let them (remember kids, just say No). 

They will ask you if you have a TV & a TV licence.  If you answer yes to the TV but no to the licence, you'll get a fine.  You'll have to buy a licence as well, unless you throw your TV away. 

If you answer no to the TV & they believe you, they will go away but will probably come back again next year.  If they don't believe you (which is much more likely), they will go away & come back another time to try & prove you have a TV.  If they're successful (which they usually are), you'll get a much bigger fine.
