Glad he is back, and I seem to learn something every time I watch them.
Didn't realise there were so many bears, and unspoilt mountains and beautiful landscapes.

That incredible castle (Dracula), and architecture with a 100 yr old electric glass roof, and hoover.
Moving that church in one piece.

Just goes to show that Romania, is not as bad as its been broadcast.

I think Portillo eating is a sight to behold - he really looks as though he loves everything he tries. He could probably do well making adverts for grub......

I enjoy his shows but I do object to the series being repeated so soon. It was first shown last September but I'm sure it's been on since then - in the same time slot

I saw all these (repeated) programmes first time round....and agree that repeating them so soon at the same time is a bit daft.

portillo never had a proper job ,lost his seat in parliament and now presents us with a railway program thanks to the "chaps" at he BBC and you praise him well I just give up

Love the programme and didn't see it first time around. His journey was in Switzerland last night - I learned so much about this country - very forward looking.

I've just read the programme descriptions in the Radio Times - they call it a new series when clearly it is same series shown in January but with two half hour episodes put together to make hour long episode.

New series. Michael Portillo continues his American rail journey west to Jefferson City, Missouri, following the tracks of European settlers in the 19th century. In St Louis he ascends America's monument to the Wild West, the Gateway Arch, the tallest free-standing monument in the US. On the banks of the Missouri River, the political commentator is invited aboard a replica of the original keel boat used for an historic expedition. Well spotted hc4361. My wife told me it was a new series and, when emmie asked, I just glanced at RT, not bothering to read it properly.

I'm quite annoyed about it now. I'll complain to Aunty Beeb. Repeated within 8 weeks and calling it a new show takes the biscuit

they are very good programmes all the same, well worth a second look.
