I know Sheena Easton has lived in the USA a long time now, but it's strange and a tad irritating to hear this Glaswegian speaking in a thick American accent these days. Not sure which is worse: hers of Catherine Zeta Jones' weird Welsh/American accent. Any thoughts?

My first thought is that you're very late to the party.
Our nation has been ridiculing the 9 - 5 nightingale since she left for the new world decades ago. :)
lol@ Douglas....tad over the top I agree....
Where did you see her? Ive not heard either of them talking in an american accent
She was on Loose Women the other day.
I really don't think people can help the development of hybrid accents - it happens to some, and not others.

A phtogtapher colleague of mine, Michael Jackson (yeah, I know, so does he ...) has lived in Chicago for over thirty years and it has made not the slightest dent in his South London lilt, others only have to be away for a matter of months, and their accept alters.

It's not something people control, it just varies from person to person.
My daughter has a strong Irish accent. She moved to Ireland 10 years ago. She had a two year spell in Oz and I was expected her to pick up the Oz accent, she said she only really mixed with Irish people so...

I don't have an Irish accent....unless I was talking to my dad.
I am also intrigued by people who speak a second language without a hint of an accent.

I have interviewed Katie Melua twice and it's easy to think she is British because she has no accent whatsoever - although she switches effortlessly to her native Georgian when speaking with members of the Georgian choir she toured with, and she told me that her family still speak Georgian at home.
Some peeps have an accent after a week or two.

My daughters half sisters went to a Irish speaking school. They could chat away in front of her without her knowing what they were saying.
