What A Nice Change.

I would not for one moment wish the dreadful circumstances that caused the absence of Zoe Ball from the radio yesterday, but it was a pleasure to hear Kate Thornton.
She actually talks like an grown-up, and not like a breathless over-enthusiastic work experience student with a Travis/Keane/ Coldplay obsession like Ms. Ball and the dreadful Jo Whiley.
Maybe we could have more people who realise that they are no longer talking to the Radio One demographic which ends at twenty-five, and who can address their audience like the adults they are.

I have been listening to Steve Right since I was 18 and I love his easy going ways, Zoe Ball whilst not my first choice is not bad far better than Fearne whatshername!!
I have been listening to Radio 2 for over 10 years now and I truly thought that I would hate Chris Evans in the morning but you know he's OK, he's friendly and has toned down his shouty way of presenting.

douglas - //So, what IS a decent length of time to wait before using a bereaved woman as an excuse for engaging in something that belongs in Pseuds Corner? //
If you want deliberately to miss the entire thrust of my point, and the ensuing discussion, and the fact that I mentioned twice that I am not including Ms Ball's tragic loss in my point, then you go right ahead, but I am not going to argue with you about something that you choose to see that is simply not there.

Baldric - //Lisa Tarbuck is truly dreadful at any time. //
I used to quite like LT when she started, but for some reason, she is developing the sort of alien swooping vocal with random loud and soft points that was adopted by both Young and Wogan towards the end of their tenures.
And who ever told her that her giggle was attractive needs a telling off as well, because that crops up at random as well now.

As of last week I have stopped listening to radio two. Are the presenters trying to emulate their American counterparts? I would have said with the exception of Ken Bruce they are way over the top and so full of themselves but even KB is now starting to copy Jeremy Vines ridiculous enunciation. I shall miss Brian Matthew for a long time, he could impart knowledge and enthusiasm without screeching like a banshee and he never sang along with a record.
Firstly, I'd like to say Andy phrased his question with the correct degree of respect, so no rational offence could possibly be taken. Secondly, Steve Wright is well past his sell-by date (& should be forced to never say Serious Jockin ever again), Jeremy Vine is incredibly boring, Chris Evans is appalling, Craig Charles looks and sounds like he needs a good wash, and Clare Teal is so smug and annoying. I do like Simon Mayo, Graham Norton, Paul O'Grady (& Len Goodman when he fills in for him), Elaine Paige, Liza Tarbuck, and sometimes Ken Bruce and Vanessa Feltz. I'm glad Tony Blackburn is back but he is making a worrying amount of mistakes. I'd bring veterans Mike Read, Simon Bates and Diddy David Hamilton in

All music ie, no DJ. The only interruption is a 3-item news headline once an hour.

Talbot - //Another career envy thread. //
I do have a career envy, but I can assure you, it's not Zoe Ball's - or any of the Radio Two presenters.
I freely admit I deeply envy Stuart Maconie - he has met far more of my heroes than me, he writes better than I ever could, he is better read than I am, he knows masses more about music than I do, and he gets to make his living from his masterful skills.
But my envy has nothing to do with this thread, which was merely to point out that I preferred Kate Thornton yesterday on the radio when I was out in the car.
You really need to curb this habit of seeing things in what I post that are simply not there.
