What an interesting programme, I had no idea what went on 70 years ago in India. Very moving some of the stories.
Some tales were horrific. The man who as a 14 year old eldest son had the job of setting fire to his dead father, he said he had to start with setting his top lip on fire first.
What a memory for someone to have for 70 years.
There was film of bodies lying in the streets being attacked by vultures.
Did anyone else see this programme?

Amazing trt.
## I hope the woman whose father's life was saved by a poor Bangladesh fisherman gave him more than a hug. ##

Tambo,
I would imagine he was well rewarded by the people making the documentary, and probably all the village people were given a small donation, & the kids sweets etc.
Hopefully well rewarded trt. I recall Stephen Fry tv/india & his concern that no rainbow shops existed.
While I was there, we went down south to a Safari Park, and went off road to an isolated small village, as the person I was with wanted to see some of her distant relatives.

The people couldn't believe a white man had come to their bamboo house village, and made such a fuss over me, laughing & smiling, but heart breaking for me at the poverty.

When we left, I bought all the kids ice-cream/lolly-pops, from the corner shop/shack, and gave some Rupees too the mothers.
The shopkeeper started to cry, at such a busy day :-)

It only cost me about £30, but it felt like I had given
them a new lease of life :-)
My dter visited Ceylon this year & tipped the waiter pkt tea. :(

I did the golden triangle & best was the tonga ride.

Thats a bit like tipping a coal miner, a lump of coal Tambo :-)
You really are quite baffling Tambo.
I know, hence the emoji trt. Ofcourse the Taj was the highlight of my trip.

No worries eccles, others understand me
On again right now !
A must watch if you missed it, second one this Wednesday.
Well worth watching. Massive human interest stories, and an inkling on how the various groups felt and what was endured. Some heroic tales too. Sad groups can act so badly though, leaving it to courageous individuals to restore faith in humans.
I agree it was a very interesting and at times moving human look at things.
I do wish people would stop apologising on behalf of britain. Brits never caused genocide at partition. Nehru & JInnah wanted the country split, blame them!
