er.....no way.....thats just daft...

Discussed this elsewhere recently. Apparently some dubious study proved that Bond and Dr Who fans are racist and sexist for only wanting a white male in the role.

My argument was that one of Bond's defining characteristics is his cruel/chauvanistic/misogynistic use of women, and therefore should be male. I also felt that as a product of his time (the cold war) and being based on a pre-existing literary character he is probably best as a white guy (though I do think Colin Salmon could have made a good Bond). It's a bit like Shaft - he just is a cool black dude. (Not to mention the cat that won't cop out when there's danger all about.)

There have been female bond clones (Modesty Blaise) but they haven't caught the public's imagination, so I guess that the viewers aren't keen on a female Bond either.

Dr Who, on the other hand, could easily be any sex, race or even (intelligent) species.

werent charles angels enough??????
No.

I suppose Lara Croft is a little like Bond... just a different set of circumstances - though a lot more physical than Roger Moore, LOL!

I think it could be worth a try - especially nowadays, when a woman can behave as Bond does and not be frowned upon, like she would have been in the past.

Personally, I would love to see a strong woman treating men the way Bond treats women.

But surely a strong female james bond would be sexy and interesting enough to capture the public's imagination?  Who knows perhaps she may even have a little depth to her character!  Women occupy so many incredibly valuable roles in politics, science, film, music and literature, so why not have a female bond?  And let's face it peeps, a strong intelligent sexy woman, fast cars and gadgets- you can't seriously be opposed?!!!

No way...ridiculous idea..!

No.

James Bond is a fictional male character so there is no reason or point for him to be played by a woman.

From a feminist point of view, why should a woman have to accept a man's role to get a good part/film. Surely what's more important is to have strong female characters written for them.

i think he should be portrayed as a blind, disabled, homosexual, black woman with learning difficulties just so we cover all the bases!!
.. good shout lepers.  Don't forget that the 'person' is also here illegally!
OMG NOOOOOOOOOOOO. we would have her saying "barcardi breezer! bottled not glassed" and that so would not be the same as "martini, shaken not stirred"

No way , ridiculous idea.

Bond is a man and was written for as a man , end of story. Write your own female spy novels/ Films and leave Bond as he is and was intended. Whatever next!!

there are certain things that you can't re-create, bond would not work if a woman too the lead role. just look at how the role of bond was written, you will then realise it's not a role for a female lead
