Strictly Week One

Spoilers for anyone not watching live and it is likely that the dance off result will be posted when it is available online, well before the dance off tomorrow. So looking forward to this! Who else is watching and who are your early favourites? I'm hoping Gemma and Jonnie do well.

Excellent show this week - a few real surprises.

It was a really good show, some very promising ones! I loved Joe's jive! Aston was very good too. I didn't seem to see the same dance Mollie did as the Judges, I thought she would be better than she was. Alexandra's was good though I do find her annoying.

Some really promising male celebrities this year!

Yes Eleena the music was very good I thought.
Thought Gemma, Alexandra, Davood, Mollie, Joe, Debbie, Jonnie and Aston were all very good. I'd be amazed if one of those isn't the overall winner.

I think Joe could win. He's never danced but has the potential to be a great dancer and he has the fan base to get the votes.

I have a soft spot for Debbie but she won't get the votes - the voting public don't like professional dancers and as well as being a solo ballet dancer she was also in a dance troupe backing some famous acts.

For no prior dance experience at all Joe is really promising, to pull off a Jive like that in his first week!

Debbie was very good but I imagine there will be a lot more brought up now about her prior dance experience.

I heard she even had her own dancing school at one point, not sure how true that is.

She had her own dance company, Eve, but it didn't do very well.

Oh dear. I'm a bit torn as although she hasn't done this type of dance before I think it does help if you have some prior dance experience. I did ballet and other dance when I was young and although Strictly is a very different discipline I would think that it would help. It did really help when I had a some beginners Salsa lessons many years later. It is good to see a higher standard of dances though more impressive if they haven't had any experience. I guess the actors and those with musical theatre and other similar experience have an advantage on the character playing and general expressions and such. Ore won last year though!

the BBC want Mollie to win because her looks will guarantee great publicity, but on tonight's showing she is clearly not good enough to even make the final. The BBC can give her extra lessons all they like, but she can't cut it. They put her and Aston on last as the big attractions. Aston seems sure he's got it sewn up already, but he shouldn't get cocky like Gabby Logan did years ago
