I Have Finally Given Sky Tv The Boot
32 Answers
I have the usual entertainment package with docs, plus sport, broadband, and phone rental, but no movies or hd.
Its just gone up to £93 a month, and they said they could give me a discount to £79, if I take out another 18 month contract, so I am going to look elsewhere for January.
£19 for rental is a joke, hardly use it, having a mobile, and they want extra for some sky sports Catch-up.
I cant have Virgin, as they dont have their cable where I live, but I have Amazon firestick.

The trouble is you aren't dealing with real people, you are dealing with computers which have been programmed to do everything possible not to let you escape from handing them your hard-earned dosh, this is why there are so many I.T. billionaires in the world.
Thanks folks,
Funnily enough, I felt a deep pleasure feeling when I put the phone down.
Yes they are greedy & annoying, and every time I get their junk mail, telling me that new subscribers could have this & that for £20/40 if you sign up, but nothing for the people who have been with them for years.
I have until Jan till my contract runs out, so have time to look into Kodi, and others.
I will have to ask ''Alexa'' as well :-)
I cant remember if they take the sky box away or not, and to be honest I have lost interest in football, now that the money they get has become a joke, and I can watch boxing box office free on my pc.
Sky will come unstuck one day, as the speed that technology is going these days, there are going to be many offers of cheaper tv.

##The day after your contract runs out, you will revert to Sky Freeview....for free ##
What do you get with that Mike, just news and crap chs etc?
##You will now be plagued with calls to reinstate it - my friend cancelled it and she finally took it back when they reduced her bill from £105 to £25 for all that she had before.##
Just shows you what they can actually do Islay, ***,

RT...lets clear up a misunderstanding. Freeview from your Sky dish, is not FREESAT !
These are the channels that you will get for free, from your Skybox, once you stop paying them anything ::

As I said, most of the important channels, but not sports or things like that.

Blimey, if I had known that Mike, I would have left a long time ago, but I am sure some of my family will be interested.
My energy supplier does broadband, so will see what they charge, and could probably do without a land- line, if I cant find a cheap deal, as I have plenty of free minutes, and even if I have to pay for 0844 numbers can always go to SayNoTo 084, and that wouldn't be anywhere near the £19.00 I pay for line rental with Sky.
Thanks again everybody, feels like Xmas already :-)

Mikey let's clear up another misunderstanding then.
Freesat from Sky may not be the same as Freesat, but it is certainly not Freeview. Freeview only comes through a terrestrial aerial.

Many people run down Talktalk, but I have always had good service from them.
New customers can get pretty good deals on phone and broadband.

Existing Sky customers can switch to Freesat from Sky to cut their costs, although they won't get access to the premium sports and movies that Sky offers.##
Now I am getting confused, so why didnt Sky offer me this Hopkirk, to try and keep me with them, or were they hoping to get me back later?
And do you have to have a mobile with TT, to get broadband, and land line?
Thanks.

For clarification:
Freeview is a totally different system to anything offered via satellite and should be IGNORED here (unless you're planning on switching to take your TV services from a terrestrial aerial, rather than from a satellite dish).
A Sky box without a valid subscription (or a 'Freesat from Sky' card) becomes a generic satellite receiver, giving you access to all of these 'Freee to Air' channels:
https:/ /en.wik ipedia. org/wik i/List_ of_free -to-air _channe ls_at_2 8%C2%B0 E
'Freesat' is a system which actually offers you a subset of the channels in that list by default (although you can add the other channels manually). It's accessed by special 'Freesat' set-top boxes (or by using a TV set with a Freesat tuner built into it). It also gives you an EPG (electronic programme guide) but not a great deal more.
'Freesat from Sky' is, confusingly, NOT the same as 'Freesat'. You get it by paying a one-off fee for a viewing card, which gives you all of the 'Free to Air' (unencrypted) channels in my Wikipedia link above (which you'd get without the card anyway) PLUS a very small number of 'Free to View' (encrypted) channels:

You do not have to have a mobile with Talktalk to get broadband and a landline. However once with them you can get a free mobile SIM card with a small amount of calltime and data. Therefore if you are not on a phone contract and don't use your phone for lots of internet time, there is another saving.
