Maybe they brought her back 'cos she was quite knowledgeable in lots of other areas?? I didn't see it, so I can't comment ..... and judging by the answers that she gave, I'm glad I didn't see it, as I'd have probably spat my brew out .... several times.

Omg, Buenchico! I've heard similar on a local radio show based in Bristol.
Gollob, I was astounded by the answers on Pointless. Geography is definitely not my thing but even I know that New York, Rio and Belfast are not capital cities and that Helsinki is ahead of us on time zones.
OH thought he was being clever by mentioning the less well known capitals of South Africa until I reminded him that SA is ahead of us in time.

On tv quizzes that pay cash to winners, they don't want clever people. The tv company would lose money. They get idiots so they lose less money and we talk about them forums like this and we tune in watch more idiots.
On Pointless a couple of days ago:
'First name of the engineer who built the Eiffel Tower'
Contestant: Isambard, as in Isambard Kingdom Brunel??
Really??

Many years ago, I had an audition to take part in a TV quiz program called "Busman's Holiday"
I formed a team of 3 BT Engineers, with two of my colleagues, who were identical twins ! My thinking at the time was that it would look good on the telly, with the twins angle.
Granada came around the country. doing auditions.
These turned out to be fiendishly difficult, comprising of a filmed sequence of 30 general knowledge questions, asked at breakneck speed. We failed this I'm afraid !
When we watched the series later, we were suitably impressed by the professional quality of the Teams that did take part :::

Douglas....you are missing my point. The audition was made purposely difficult, to weed out unsuitable contestants, before they got anywhere near a TV studio.
If the evidence that I have seen, particularity with some of the versions of the Lottery Show on a Saturday night are anything to go by, there can't be as rigorous procedure used now. I suspect the answer is because people making fools of themselves on the telly may be the point of these quizzes in the first place.
Its modern bear bating.
