Oh dear .... looks like Geography was def not her strong point :)

Maybe they brought her back 'cos she was quite knowledgeable in lots of other areas?? I didn't see it, so I can't comment ..... and judging by the answers that she gave, I'm glad I didn't see it, as I'd have probably spat my brew out .... several times.
The Pointless lot could be contenders for the worst contestants ever. Question was Name the capital of a country that celebrates New Year at the same time or after the UK.
First answers were Belfast, Helsinki, New York and Rio!
Agree watched it today definitely useless at Geography you would think they would swot up a bit before going on these shows, The Chase lately has had useless contestants as well haven’t won any money lately.

I've posted this several times before but, given that this thread is about brainless quiz contestants, it seems worth giving it another outing here ;-)

Omg, Buenchico! I've heard similar on a local radio show based in Bristol.

Gollob, I was astounded by the answers on Pointless. Geography is definitely not my thing but even I know that New York, Rio and Belfast are not capital cities and that Helsinki is ahead of us on time zones.

OH thought he was being clever by mentioning the less well known capitals of South Africa until I reminded him that SA is ahead of us in time.
On tv quizzes that pay cash to winners, they don't want clever people. The tv company would lose money. They get idiots so they lose less money and we talk about them forums like this and we tune in watch more idiots.

On Pointless a couple of days ago:
'First name of the engineer who built the Eiffel Tower'

Contestant: Isambard, as in Isambard Kingdom Brunel??

Really??
Question is only easy if you know the answer .
Clover, you'll cop it from your left wing mates for calling idiots idiots.
tut tut :o}
numpties ! I'm forever screaming at the telly !
that radio post made me laugh ,I have been feeling really low with this cough and cold I can't get rid of so thankyou Buenchico for cheering me up xx
I have no idea what "Tenable" is but I think they may put adverts in the newspaper asking for

"really thick people wanted, to appear on the telly and make fools of themselves"

Perhaps they use the same method as Jeremy Kyle does ?
Probably worth pointing out that the stress of being there can disrupt normal thought. Maybe in front of their TV, a portion of those struggling in the studio, are right on the ball.
Many years ago, I had an audition to take part in a TV quiz program called "Busman's Holiday"

I formed a team of 3 BT Engineers, with two of my colleagues, who were identical twins ! My thinking at the time was that it would look good on the telly, with the twins angle.

Granada came around the country. doing auditions.

These turned out to be fiendishly difficult, comprising of a filmed sequence of 30 general knowledge questions, asked at breakneck speed. We failed this I'm afraid !

When we watched the series later, we were suitably impressed by the professional quality of the Teams that did take part :::

Let me get this straight Mikey, you don't know the show but criticise some contestants anyway then in the next electronic breath admit to being a failure in a similar situation when it comes to getting to the point that those you deride have managed.

Good chat.
I once took part in a quiz and also went through the same type of audition as Mikey did. Probably they don''t bother with this anymore.
Douglas....you are missing my point. The audition was made purposely difficult, to weed out unsuitable contestants, before they got anywhere near a TV studio.

If the evidence that I have seen, particularity with some of the versions of the Lottery Show on a Saturday night are anything to go by, there can't be as rigorous procedure used now. I suspect the answer is because people making fools of themselves on the telly may be the point of these quizzes in the first place.

Its modern bear bating.

Very good point Douglas, the folks Mikey is deriding actually outperformed him and made it on to the Programme.
I think nerves get to some people especially if a quick answer is expected. I'd want a bit of thinking time so I'd be hopeless in those circumstances.
I'm not sure about the auditions. OH was on 15 to 1 about twenty years ago and had an audition.

I looked into us going on Pointless, and they do have auditions, but I think they're looking for personality, not cleverness so much.

As I said before, the money-giving shows don't want clever people.
