Was it Spurs? I think at the time there was only one cup (FA cup), but yes I agree that the word league is not really specific enough- it could refer to the Hackney Marshes league

It's a convention on quiz shows that it's not an absolutely requirement to fully qualify a question if the subject is the most prominent of its genre in the country where the question is being asked. Football is the national sport of the United Kingdom so, unless specified otherwise, a sport question relates to football.

This applies in other categories of question too. E.g. if you were asked "In which year was the Queen's coronation?", there'd be no need to fully specify which person was the subject of the question because you'd just know. However, if you were in Denmark, it'd be different.
