I watched the first episode (at the second attempt having fallen aslepp through it the previous evening!) and to my surprise thought it was excellent. Helped by the realistic effect of having some very fine Russian actors with actual language dialogue, the knowledge that the author of the origina McMafia has rated the programme very close to reality, and the fact that the plot (so far) is not as convoluted as I had feared (that may change)
Hint: when you have a drama about mafias, beware of running into "unlikeable characters" :-). I am not sure the point in this case is to elicit sympathy. More a "Wow! They do that and we let them?!" reaction.
The Russian embassy has already complained that it is an assault on truth, hilariously enough, as there are actually very few Russians in British prisons. But none of the gangsters featured here ARE in prison. That is the problem.
