Someone will surly come up with an answer for you Wolf, I kept thinking of Eerie Indiana, when I first read your post, but from the links I don't think I've seen it, but are intrigued.

It was a TV series, I remember watching it on video as well so circa late 80s/early 90s. The band was a rock band, perhaps a female lead singer. The video ego wall scene was a stadium of screaming fans on the screens surrounding the band, who played "Black Night" by Deep Purple. I used to think it was called "So you wanna be a Rock Star" or similar.
