I remember as a 9 or 10 year old being transfixed by the TV series The Silver Sword. Set in Poland during WW2 with Fraser Hines playing the boy Jan. It was about children trying to escape a devastated and bombed Poland to Switzerland. They had a little wooden box that contained the Silver Sword which sort of held them together. Don't think that I have ever been so riveted to a TV series or Film since.

Awful I know, but I can remember my mother and grandmother coming into the house on a Saturday morning to announce that my grandfather had passed away; as a 6 year old though I had to finish watching the latest episode of Ivanhoe before it sunk in.
