Went to the cinema today to see this film. Fabulous - even better than I expected. Great cast. Wish I'd taken some tissues as the tears were flowing at the end. If you love Queen, don't miss it.

Retrocop - // OK. Once again I am obliged. //

My pleasure.
andy-hughes
Talbot - // How much reel-time did Sun City get? //

That would be none - it's a film drama not a political statement.

The universe of music fans is amazingly forgiving of the utter crass stupidity and appalling behaviour of some of its idols - which can be just as well.

Just as I thought...glossed over.

If it's an issue for you, why not write to the film production company, or the band, or your MP?

There's not a lot I can do for you, sorry.
Does the film get over Freddie's shyness? I met him once at Island Studios in London in the 70s, and he was almost excruciatingly quiet and polite.
goodgoalie - I think it's difficult to really get into someone's persona in the format of a feature film, but yes, I think they conveyed the shyness behind the showman.

Freddie was a complex character, not always pleasant, but he lived his life his own way, and his talent, enormous as that is, lives on after him.
I would've loved to have met the fella, pompous , camp ,shy whatever. I'm looking forward to seeing the film, I have seen some sad documentaries about the man but really looking forward to seeing this film.
The film is "cringeworthy", according to today's Times. The clips I've seen look risible
Not for purists who want historical accuracy, apparently:

Buenchico - In terms of Queen performing songs on stage before they were recorded, that was, and always has been a standard practice for dozens of bands. The notion that bands only play recorded and released songs on tour is utter nonsense - Pink Floyd toured The Dark Side Of The Moon for a year before they recorded and released it - many bands do the same.

As for the timelines - those do have to be sacrificed on the alter of time constraints for what is a feature film, not a historical documentary.

The film of the Kray twins starring the Kemp Brothers showed events happening over forty-eight hours that were in reality two years apart - but that is the poetic licence afforded to the feature film maker.

Anyone who wants a documentary about Queen, there are plenty about - anyone who wants to see a feature film about Queen, with actors playing them, and some liberties taken with facts - go and see this excellent film.
Isn't it true that Queen fans will be the vast majority of the viewers of this film....and are likely to enjoy it, despite any liberties that have obviously been taken? Non-fans who may see it (for whatever reason) are the ones who are likely to carp and criticise about inaccuracies etc in depiction of the "real" Freddie.

Absolutely.

I am a music journalist and a Queen fan, and I went along as a queen fan, I was not working that day!

I could have prodded the present Mrs Hughes and advised her that a shot showing all four members recording vocals in the studio was a nonsense - John Deacon did not sing on record or on stage - but why would I do that? She couldn;t care less, and would not be impressed at me disturbing her to show off my knowlege of the band.

The anal retentives who analyse and criticise every little detail will be in seriously small minority, as they should - the rest will enjoy an excellent film.

I'm going to see it with my sister and some of the kids who want to. I suspect we will just enjoy it anyway.
Can anyone tell me how long this film is expected to be playing in cinemas for. I really want to see it but cant get to the cinema for the next 2 weeks.
If a film is a bit of a duffer is it taken of early or do cinemas have a set of amount to screen a film. Sorry if its a bit 'off thread''.
Thanks.
Any answer to the above ^ would be appreciated. Thanks
(just bumping it ;-) )
It's a new release and popular so I`m pretty sure it will still be showing an a couple of weeks from now
"in"
Thanks 237, my own thoughts as well.
It will go on for more than a couple of weeks but there will be less showings. We are going to see it on tuesday afternoon and there are about 5 or 6 showings that day.
Just been to see it with daughter and her family, thus getting OH out of it, I thought it was excellent and I wasn't a contemporary fan, I'd never heard of FM til he died and I turned down a chance to see them in about '82!
I thought it was excellent.
